Charity of the Month
St. Mark's donates more than £10,000 per year to various charities through its initiative of "wider giving" in addition to regular church collections. The "Charity of the Month" scheme provides a significant proportion of this amount. A selection of those charities supported in the past through this scheme are listed below. May 2008: The work of Bishop Henry
This month we are again asked to support, for the first time this year, Henry Ndukuba, the Bishop of Gombe. Many of you will remember that Bishop Henry recently visited St Mark’s and gave a very warm ‘thank you’ for the donations that have been made in the past. They are always gratefully received and vital as they help to provide funds for a number of ongoing major projects – especially so as we are, at present, the only church that supports Bishop Henry and his work directly.
Current projects supported by our donations to Bishop Henry’s work include St Luke’s hospital (which has now been running for almost a year), setting up mobile clinics, sourcing building materials needed to plant new churches, training teachers and setting up a diocesan vocation centre (as part of a new initiative to provide an alternative to violent activities for young people).
We are hoping for a news update from Gombe very soon, so be sure to look out for both it and some new photographs of Bishop Henry’s work which will be displayed in the narthex as soon as they arrive.
